Self Defense Classes
Self defense classes will begin January 8, 2026 on Thursday evenings starting at 5:30 pm at the Northwood Dojo, 4550 Central Ave. Start and end times are flexible and will be adjusted based on participants availability.
Our self defense classes are designed for mature students ages 15 years and older. Focus will be on situational awareness, practicing simple, effective techniques, and may include mature and what could be uncomfortable situations. Self defense class can be taken alone, or combined with our more structured rank-advancement program (see schedule below).
Wear sturdy but comfortable clothes, and light, secure-fitting footwear.
$15 recommended donation, pay what you think it’s value is, and what you can afford.

Karate at your School is available at five Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), see the schedule below. During enrollment windows, register by clicking the correct button below:
NOTES: Payment is preferred at time of registration. If you need to pay later, would like an installment plan, or want to request a scholarship, contact us at Vince@HernlyFamilyKarate.com for assistance. Our programs have high demand. We may need to refuse your registration based on enrollment numbers. If payment has been made, you will receive a full refund if we need to remove your registration.

Info About our new location in Irvington:
We will meet in the Fellowship hall at Downey Avenue Christian Church, 111 S. Downey Avenue. You can park on the southside of the building near Door #2 off of Hibben Ave. All the parking spots are marked as Handicapped only, but this is for Sundays only; yes, you can park there. This is also the best spot to drop off students. Enter via Door #2 directly into the Fellowship hall, where we will conduct classes. Overflow parking is available on the WEST side of Downey Avenue, south of the round building (Mundell & Associates)
While we no longer have locker rooms, there are restrooms nearby where you can change into your uniform.
If the new location is no longer going to work for you, please let me know so I can cancel your membership.
